Service to the Community
Jesus
called us to love God and neighbor, and that means living lives of
action that make a positive difference in our world and promote the
common good of the community. Members of Trinity can be found
serving in the parish food ministry, marching in the street for
social and economic justice, traveling to Jefferson City for
conversations with our lawmakers, and working with neighborhoods to
build a more just and fair world.
Faith without works is
dead, and our faith is alive and well.
Trinity Food Ministry
Over 40 years ago, responding to the need of those in
the Central West End who were without food, Trinity began providing
food assistance to our neighbors in need. Begun as a program which
provided emergency food aid to those in need, Trinity how has a
weekday food pantry which is open three days a weeks and a hot lunch
program which serves a Sunday afternoon lunch. We receive financial
support, donations of volunteer time, canned and boxed food,
clothing, and fresh vegetables from numerous individuals, faith
communities, and organizations who together, allow this ministry to
continue.
Located one block from Delmar Blvd, the line of
racial demarcation and segregation labeled “the Delmar Divide,”
Trinity Church sits in a unique location. To its south, in the
28th ward, the Central West End thrives as a business and
entertainment center for a diverse group of economically stable and
growing people. To its north, in the 18th ward, the population
continues to struggle with under- and un-employment, and
deteriorating homes.
Food Pantry
The
Food Pantry is open Tuesday and Wednesday, 1:30 to 3
pm; Thursday, 4-5:30 pm. In 2015, we provided food for
almost 9000 individuals. Over 2700 were under the age of 18 while
almost 1400 were over the age of 62. Many of the patrons are the
working poor. Some are homeless. Many are blended families;
generations living together to share incomes and meet needs. There
are no geographic or income limitations for this program. The Pantry
offers a stop-gap to help make ends meet until the next paycheck,
disability check, or Food Stamps are available.
Sunday Hot Lunch
Hot Lunch is every Sunday from 2 to
2:30 p.m. In 2015, we served 4000 meals .
Those coming to the Hot Lunch are likely to live within the
neighborhood although, many a re homeless, living on the
streets or in shelters in downtown St. Louis. These meals are
provided through partnerships with numerous Episcopal parishes and
churches, and a synagogue, as well as secular organizations.
